about us

Blue Dog Cranes are the tight site crane specialists.

With every Blue Dog Cranes lift, we try to minimize onsite surprises and issues. How? By inspecting all of our jobs ahead of time. Ben will conduct an onsite inspection prior to lift day – and if you can’t be there, he’ll call you while he’s onsite and talk through all the details.

During the inspection and planning phases we will obtain load weight and dimension information to work out the best crane and set-up location for the lift.

We are safety-focused with a team of skilled and varied riggers, qualified operators and electrical spotters. Given there must be a ticketed dogman onsite to ensure safety and adhere to WH&S protocol, we can either provide one of our skilled staff, or give you the option of providing your own.

We prefer to gather as much detail as possible about the site before arriving and provide site managers with insurances, SWMS, personnel licenses and inductions relevant to the work. Such preparation leads to a smoother start for all – especially appreciated on those cold and frosty mornings!

Blue Dog Cranes is owned and managed by us – Ben and Samantha Ind. Together, we have over 20 years’ construction and crane experience. We strongly believe in honesty and fairness, and we view it as a two-way street between our company and you, our customers.

We strive for openness and transparency with you, our staff and our partners.

The Blue Dog Cranes MISSION

Our mission is simple: to provide a safe, affordable lift solution for our client, aimed at achieving bilateral success.

Blue Dog Cranes creates an environment that empowers its staff – providing great opportunities both at work and at home with their families.

The best business deal is one where all involved feel like they have won – this is our mission.

“You do you, we’ll do cranes.”

Follow us on our socials to see what we are all about and to view some of the incredible lifts we have done.

Blue Dog Cranes lives by five key elements that stem from the company mission:

  1. Safety: The Blue Dog Cranes equipment is extremely well maintained. We exceed manufacturer guidelines on service intervals, and we comply with the relevant government regulations.
  2. Staff Communication: Preparation is the key to a smooth lift day. We alleviate stress from our staff and customers by discussing the job with all our team members prior to attending the site.
  3. Bilateral Success: The best business deal is when all parties feel like they have won.
  4. Training: We have a “Blue Dog Way” and we are passionate about our team taking on lifts in a safe and uniformed manner. We maintain a high level of skilled staff, benefitting both Blue Dog Cranes and the industry as a whole.
  5. Site Inspections: These are crucial to our early success – and yours. They minimize risk, wasted time, and ultimately save you money! We discuss factors like lift plans; truck timing; traffic management requirements; spotter provision; and any other concerns / issues you or Blue Dog Cranes may have.

Our Team

Blue Dog Cranes has a multi-skilled team, all vital to getting the job done.

In the field, you’ll find our group of skilled operators and dogman – follow us on social media to see the crew at work. Behind the scenes, Samantha and Ben Ind are always hard at work keeping everything running smoothly.

Find out more about them below.

Ben is the Blue Dog Cranes front man. He will meet you onsite to discuss your lift needs. He is a highly experienced operator and has found himself in the hot seat of most mobile (and occasionally tower) cranes.

Ben has a business background and has worked in construction since he was 18 years old (a little while ago now!). He initially worked crane trucks and frannas, and then later, operated slew cranes. Specialising in cranes under 100 tonnes, Ben has experience across all facets of crane hire including civil, wind and residential.

Samantha brings the order to Blue Dog Cranes and runs the show behind the scenes. She has an events and logistics background with over 15 years’ experience worldwide. Nine of these years ran concurrently with marketing responsibilities. Sam spent seven years with Enviroflex Insulation, specialising in marketing to the residential and commercial sector. This role also included hiring staff and overseeing the implementation of systems and procedures.

In 2020, Samantha completed her dogman’s ticket. This has given her a greater understanding of life onsite, ensuring Blue Dog Cranes is always giving the best possible customer service.
