I’ll admit, I was initially sceptical when Mel applied for a role with us. Moving from infrastructure projects to the fast-paced demands of running job to job isn’t a transition many people manage successfully. But Mel was adamant she wanted to learn how it’s done properly.
It didn’t take long to see that she is one of the hardest-working crane crew members I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Always positive, never a complaint, and working until there’s no more work to do. She picked up every skill as quickly as we could teach them and proved herself reliable in any situation.

From there, we set Mel up for truck driving. After following our larger cranes to build experience, and confidence, we sent her off to Nev at Australian Industrial Trainers, Assessors & Consultants (AITAC) to complete her C6.
That was only last week – and yesterday she was already out operating for two of our clients in a mobile crane.

Aside from the initial inspection and factoring in the measurements of the equipment, the weight of the object the crane is moving can pose the most risk to safety. Although the object’s weight may stay the same, its stress on the crane and the boom will continue to change. To avoid any kind of safety, financial, or legal risk, always make sure the crane can handle the entirety of the job.

Some may pull down on the boom more than others, while certain objects may cause the weight to lean due to its structure.
